Happy Birthday, Crafty Girl!

One of the many advantages of working so closely with Papertrey Ink is that I'm privy to what the Design Team is up to each month. I tend to challenge myself to complete the same assignments in the same time frame (what can I say? I guess it's a habit left over from when I was on the release team!). This is the card that I created using Dawn McVey's new Studio Style set. What a fun set! I know I'm going to be using "Happy Birthday, Crafty Girl" a LOT - it's the perfect sentiment for all my super talented friends.

For this card, I first decided on my color combination - I chose Kraft, Melon Berry and Spring Moss. For the 'quilted' strip, I used pieces of Green Tea Leaves along with pieces of Melon Berry that I stamped with Background Basics: Tin Types and Spring Moss ink. When I added Spring Moss cardstock die cut with the new Small Scalloped Border die, and some machine stitching, it really gave it a great look. Add a little Spring Moss Topnotch Twill and it really completes the background.

For the focal point, I pulled out my colored pencils and colored a Melon Berry and Spring Moss button mix. This image is kind of small for me to color with Copics, so I was really pleased with the control I was able to achieve with the pencils - just take a look at the shading and color variations. I used a little light blue for the jar so it didn't look too flat, as well as a combo of grey and silver for the lid. It was very fun to color and really didn't take that long at all! I finished it off with the sentiment and some rounded corners, and it's all set to go!

I hope that you have a great weekend! Be well.
